Bariatric hoists FAQ ? Get all the answers you need to choose the perfect bariatric hoist
What are bariatric hoists?
Bariatric lifting hoists are specially designed to lift users or patients of a heavy weight. They are not only reinforced to lift this extra weight, but they?re also designed to be more spacious and come with a number of extra features to make the lifting experience easier for both the user and the operator.
What features do bariatric hoists include to aid the lifting process?
Whilst it depends on the type of model you choose, many common features include advanced wheel positioning, a high strength-to-weight ratio, electronic leg re-positioning, 4-point lifting harnesses, wider dimensions, low chassis? and higher lifting heights for full lifting capabilities from the floor to any seating or lying position in beds and chairs.
Are bariatric lifting hoists only suitable for patients of a heavier weight?
Whilst they?re especially suited to bariatric patients, the bariatric hoist range is also suitable for patients of any size or weight. This is ideal for care homes and hospitals where you may want to use the lift for users within a full range of weights for the most cost-effective solution.
Which model should I choose?
Below is a series of useful information on the bariatric ranges to help make sure that you choose the correct one for the needs of you or your user(s).
Molift has a wide range available ? which one should I choose?
Molift Partner 255
The Molift Partner 255 has a superb 255kg (562lbs) lifting weight to securely lift even the heaviest bariatric patients with ease and comfort. A particularly useful feature of this bariatric hoist includes a vertical lifting pattern, meaning that the user stays the same distance away from the main support column during the entire lift. This is especially useful for very large users where any reduction in space during the lifting process could cause discomfort.
Another key benefit of the Molift Partner 255 is its powerful strength-to-weight ratio. Despite having one of the highest lifting weights of its class, this bariatric lifting aid is also one of the lightest, thereby shedding any extra weight which could make manoeuvring difficult.
Molift Mover 205
The Molift 205 bariatric hoist can lift 205kg. Whilst this is on the lower end of the scale for its class, it means that it?s a highly cost-effective solution when users are within this weight range, as more expensive hoists can be avoided when the extra lifting capacity is unlikely to ever be utilised. Like the other hoists within this model, the mover 205 provides a swift and comfortable lift with extra durability, a stable base, a high lifting altitude and a 4-point harness. The range of slings available to the full Molift bariatric range means that the user can be lifted from the floor to any seating or lying position with ease.
Another key feature of the Mover 205 is the small and low chassis whilst providing ample space for the user due to the long lifting arm. This not only makes manoeuvring easier for the operator, but it also allows the legs to be placed under most beds and seats to bring the user right over the surface and then lower them directly into their chosen resting position.
Molift Mover 300
The Molift Mover 300 is similar to the Mover 205, except it has reinforced parts and added strength to allow lifting of patients and users up to 300kg. With the ability to lift such a heavy weight (almost 660lbs), the Mover 300 can comfortably ascend and descend the vast majority of bariatric users in all but the most exceptional of cases. This makes this bariatric lifting hoist a fantastic investment if you have a user or you?re in a care home or hospital where this sort of weight range is likely to be reached.
Like all of the lifts in our range, the Molift Mover 300 can include optional weighing scales to provide simple and accurate weight measurements. This is ideal for keeping record or checking whether the user is within the safe working load for a range of other bariatric lifting, mobility and resting aids.
To cater specifically for users of a higher weight, the Molift Mover 300 comes with electric leg positioning, a tall lifting height, an extra wide base and larger dimensions to allow ample space for a comfortable and secure lift. Despite this, the bariatric lifting hoist is also easily manoeuvrable for its class to make ascending and descending comfortable for both the user and the operator.
In summary
Whether you?re lifting bariatric patients off a floor, or lifting bariatric patients in a hospital or into bed, the entire Molift range of heavy-duty hoists are up to the task with a range of features to make the operation as swift, easy and secure as possible.
With higher prices for heavier lifting capabilities, it?s best to choose the lifting aid which is within the weigh range you?re likely to need. This may involve choosing a hoist which is suited to a specific user, or it may involve investing in a hoist with a higher lifting capacity to ensure that you?re covered for every eventuality in a care home or hospital.
